Martin Luther King Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, and the prominent leader in the African American civil rights movement. His main goal was to make sure that civil rights proggresed. He was at first a Baptist minister and then became a civil rights activist early in his career. In 1955 he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott and then helped find the Southern Christian Leadership conference in 1957, also serving as its first president. His efforts then led to the March on Washington in 1963 where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. He then later became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation.
King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis Tennessee. He was staying at eh Lorraine Motel in room 306 when one night, he was standing on the balcony on the second floor and was shot. The bullet entered his right cheek, smashing his jaw, then traveled down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder.
